Summary of the conference:

Economic and environmental reasons are the base for the ever increasing needs of recycling in our society. Industries and governments are joining their efforts and learning to work together towards better, faster and more efficient ways to recycle for a better future. As people committed to increase the sustainability of our world by recycling resources, the delegates, will share our accomplishments towards “Recycle today for a better tomorrow” with the aim of nothing but reaching a better tomorrow in a sustainable planet. To create the awareness of recycling, we are conducting the 2nd World Congress and Expo on Recycling during July 25-27, 2016 with the theme “Recycle today for a better tomorrow”

Importance and Scope:

There are many reasons why it’s important to recycle and compost as much as possible. It conserves raw materials and making new products out of recycled materials reduces the need to consume precious resources. So recycling helps protect raw materials and protect natural habitats for the future. As world  is facing a shortage of raw materials, increased garbage in environment ,increased pollution  Recycling Expo- 2016 during July 25-27, 2016 is going to be held at Berlin with an aim to grow awareness and interests in the field of Recycling and its allied areas

Why Berlin, Germany:

Berlin is the largest and capital city of Germany and which is surrounded with many universities, associations& societies and government bodies which were focusing mainly on research on recycling. Germany is the largest market in Europe; it constitutes 20 percent of European GDP, and is home to 16 percent of the total European Union (EU) population. The German economy is both highly industrialized and diversified with equal focus placed on services of recycling and waste management. Currently, a large number of international recycling companies operating in the European region have expressed an increasing demand for waste management scientists who are competent in integrating knowledge and skills in recycling, urban mining, waste management, and sustainability for the exploration and development of recycling machinery. As well and many universities have been started the separate department of recycling and waste management resource recovery to attract the students.

Glance at Recycling:

As per a report of Bureau of International Recycling 40% of the global raw material needs are covered by recycled materials. The cost of global waste market is a worth of $410 billion. As reported by Veolia Poland uses its 90% of municipal waste in landfill sites, whereas Netherlands disposes only 1.7% % through land filling. Many factors also associated with the choice of disposal, recycle or recovery route that includes; legal constraints of different countries, ecological awareness, degree of economic development and climatic factors etc. Major recycling sectors include recycling of waste water, recycling of metals, plastics, industrial waste, e waste, municipal waste etc. As per a report global market of waste water recycling increased from $6.7 billion to $9.5 billion during 2009 to 2012 and is expected to $23.4 billion by 2017 with a CAGR of 19.7%. As reported by Bureau of International Recycling 1.6 million people are associated with recycling industry and they used to handle more than 600 million tons of recyclables every year with an annual turnover of more than $200 billion.

European countries are now encouraging Renewable energy from natural sources to minimize the environmental pollution. Countries like Portugal, Colombia and Malaysia are the leading countries in which 10% of their amount is spent on R&D, new technologies in recycling, generating high skilled job sectors and has become a key driver for tomorrow’s sustainable development. The recycling industry has become an integral part of modern society not only due to its social and economic impact but due to its vital role for the future of our planet. The European Research Council (ERC) that funds junior and senior world-class researchers based in Europe is keen on promoting fundamental research in all areas and conducting waste expos and recycling and its allied areas. Around 150 projects are currently being funded by the ERC in this field. USEPA is also encouraging the Recycling researches in their societies.

Market Value on Recycling Research:

Government of each and every country is allotting grants to recycling the waste and implementing projects to reuse the material. For an example England Government is funding grants for seven recycling projects and it was published on Aug 2015. The main theme is to recover atleast 75%waste from the landfill by 2021. The grants allotted for each project as follows $5 million to Dial-A-Dump to build a new commercial and industrial waste facility, $5 million to Resource Co Asia (Australia) to establish a new facility to recover dry mixed commercial and industrial waste, $2.645 million to BioCoal to develop a new facility to recover organic material from kerbside residual waste,  $1.937 million to the City of Newcastle to establish a new mixed waste facility, $1.3 million to Relivit to construct and operate a facility to process absorbent hygiene waste,  $1.05 million to PGM Refiners to build an e-waste recycling facility,  $1 million to Doyle Bros to establish a material recovery facility to process dry commercial and industrial waste.

Funding Opportunities:

Over the last 10 years, the Foundation has fulfilled this mission in two primary areas; the offering of scholarships to both undergraduate and graduate students, and the funding of research beneficial to the industry. Since 2002, the Foundation has awarded more than $790,000 in scholarships to more than 600 students. Since 2010, RRF has been sponsoring a special graduate scholarship open to those working in fields that may directly benefit the industry and starting in 2014, the Foundation will be offering a special 4-year, $8,000 scholarship to former enlisted personnel.

In research over the last few years, the Foundation has funded a detailed study of the E.U. scrap electronics industry, Inside the E.U. Electronics Recycling Industry, one of the first studies to report on the exports of used electronics. The Foundation has also worked with rubber recyclers to create a uniform ASTM standard in playground mulch and will be looking into whether or not to fund a comprehensive study of post-consumer plastics.
